Semiotics has no beginning. I like not just facts or data, but key concepts or ideas–and this book has them, in spades.
I consider it necessary to recall here what this short text, that was not aimed at anything big and that was a compilation by nature, meant for all of us who were fascinated by semiotics — it is this writing mohn forced us to work out our own approaches to sign systems and communicative processes, while Barthes himself was moving away from pure theory.
